IHC U/14 Lions qualify for Scottish Finals

EAST DISTRICT U/14 CLUB MIXED TOURNAMENT AND SCOTTISH QUALIFIER

Inverleith U14s narrowly missed out on winning the East District Mixed U14 Cup at Mary Erskines School on Sunday, losing on penalties in the final to Watsonians.

On a bitterly cold morning at MES, the team made slightly heavy weather of their Group games, narrowly beating Grange 1-0, then Balerno 3-0, before drawing 1-1 with Dunfermline Carnegie. This was enough, however, to see them progress to the semi-final as Group winners, where they were pitted against Edinburgh Cala, who were looking to avenge their 4-1 defeat in the U14 League two weeks ago. In a very competitive game, Inverleith found their true form once again, and booked their place in the final with a narrow 1-0 victory, the goal coming from Adam Lloyd. In the final against Watsonians, Inverleith again played by far the better hockey, and I think most neutral observers would agree that they were the better team on the pitch. They had 1 effort scrambled off the line, and another shot the came back off the post, while at the other end James in goal had very little to do at all. Unfortunately the goal just wouldn't come, and in the penalty shoot-out Watsonians won through, scoring 2 penalties to our one. Well done to Stuart, Adam and Jamie for stepping forward to take the penalties, and to James for doing so well in goal.

A great effort by the whole squad in what was a very hard day's hockey, and the good news is that we do qualify as one of the two East District representatives for the Scottish Cup on 30th May - Well done!!
