Investing in Coaching | Chris Duncan Becomes Our Technical Director

Inverleith Hockey Club
Quality training and success on a Saturday are at the very core of your enjoyment of hockey. Good coaching drives these outcomes. We have therefore hired a Technical Director to oversee the standard of coaching throughout our club.

We are delighted to announce that Chris Duncan, our Men’s First Team coach, Assistant Coach to Scotland Senior Woman, Director of Hockey at Edinburgh Academy, who is also reading a PhD in Coaching, has been appointed as our new Technical Director.

In this role, Chris will be responsible for the development of all our coaches. This will see him mentoring them as individuals and establish thorough principle-based frameworks for our session design, delivery and content.

“This is an exciting step for your club. Investing in the structured development of our coaches brings many benefits. For our playing members, we are securing you the highest quality training sessions and boosting the performances of you and your team. For our coaches we want to ensure that Inverleith Hockey Club is a place you can be guaranteed the chance to grow your skillset.”

Paul Bowyer, Club President.

As a club we will never have the high budgets seen across professional sport. We are a community sports club, who retain a few, valuable amateur coaches, but whose lifeblood will always be our volunteers, and our membership fees reflect this.

However, the committee appreciates that this blend of amazing amateur coaches and dedicated volunteers require more attention and professional direction, in order to deliver the level of quality and success we all want for the whole club moving forwards.

Bringing in years of experience and knowledge, we are confident that Chris is the person to provide the direction our coaching team requires. The ultimate result of which will be markedly better training sessions and an improvement in performance from our players and teams.

“With his raft of knowledge we will have a source of enviable content to tap into, to drive coach development across our Men’s, Ladies and Youth sections.”

Arnie Sathiy, Men’s Vice President.

Welcome Chris.
